Registering as a tester is risk-free. When a developer selects you to submit a bid, we'll send you an email. You can choose to submit a bid or not ... but we bet you will when you see how easy it is!

Are you a professional mobile tester?

Professional testing houses and developers who have large handset inventories are called "MobPro's."

MobPro LogoThis logo appears besides handsets owned by a MobPro. This is someone who has multiple handsets, and is most likely an existing testing house or another mobile developer looking to create revenue in another way from their testing resources. You might expect more complete and thorough testing from a MobPro, and, accordingly, higher bids for test projects in some instances.

If you own 10 or more handsets, let us know when you register, and we'll set you up.

How do mobile developers submit projects to the Mob4Hire community?

Mob4Hire CTO, John Carpenter put this video together for developers who wanted to know how to post mobile projects and use Mob4Hire as a testing tool.

As a tester, it helps to understand what the developer is going through so you can understand how to best help them.

It's a great walkthrough of how our our system works ... sometimes hard to see the screen text, but useful none-the-less.

Do you want to be a Mob4Hire tester?

How does Mob4Hire work?As a tester, we connect you with mobile application developers that need you to test on your specific handset, in your country and on the carrier that you subscribe to. Here's a list of frequently asked questions (FAQ's) that we ..., er ... ummm ..., frequently get asked.

  1. What do I need to be able to register for testing via Mob4hire? To register as a tester at Mob4hire you need an e-mail address and an active phone which is able to connect to the internet.

  2. Why does my phone need the ability to connect to the internet? When you register at Mob4hire you'll get 2 confirmation messages sent to you. One message will be sent to your e-mail address to confirm your registration on the Mob4hire website and the other message will be an SMS message sent to your phone. The SMS message will contain a link which will confirm your handset via an internet connection. Once the link is pressed your handset/phone will be added to your Mob4hire account/profile. You also need to be able to connect to the internet via your handset to receive the applications you will be testing. Developers will send the applications to Mob4hire and then you can upload them to a handset which you have added to your account/profile.

  3. How does the Mob4hire system work? Mobile application developers post their testing requirements on the Mob4Hire site. Registered testers who meet the developer’s criteria (e.g.: a specific handset model operating on a London-based network) receive an email and are invited to bid on the job. The successful bidder is notified and receives a URL on their handset which enables them to download the application and a complete test plan. The tester conducts the test and submits the results to the developer. Funds are transferred to the tester’s account within five days and you can access the funds (after you have $100) in your account through PayPal.

  4. How much experience do I need to be a Mob4Hire tester. Anybody who is reasonably savvy using their own handset can be a tester. There may be some tests which require a more sophisticated user, but many tests require only that you have the proper handset, a mobile account, and the ability to follow instructions.

  5. How do I become a tester? Register at the Mob4Hire website. You will receive a text message on your handset asking you to confirm your registration. That’s all it takes. You can begin bidding on projects immediately.

  6. Why do you need testers from all over the world? A mobile application must be able to work on a wide range of handsets while hosted on a specific network. Unless the developer is based within range of that network, they need to connect with testers who are. Mob4Hire has testers from all over the world which gives developers more opportunities to sell their products to global markets.

  7. How much can I expect to make testing mobile applications? That depends on how many projects you take on, and the complexity of those projects. A very simple test may bring in less than $20 (US) while larger tests involving more time can be worth far more. We've seen bids from $10 to $300. Mob4Hire is a new service that is growing every day. Testers are invited to grow along with us and bid on an increasing number of available projects.

  8. Is my application download paid for? No. If you have a plan which charges you for application downloads, factor that in when you make your bid.

  9. Why is there a bidding system? A bidding system enables the market to set the price and allows for a range of factors, such as labour rates and download fees. Mob4Hire’s focus is putting developers in touch with testers to help get applications to market faster. Lower bids may win some projects, but testers who do good work and receive high ratings on the Mob4Hire site are able to set higher rates.

  10. How do you handle payment? All payment through Mob4Hire is managed through PayPal; all testers must set up a PayPal account. See www.paypal.com for terms and conditions. Five banking days after you send the test results to the developer, your funds are available via PayPal. You must earn $100 towards your account before funds are released by Mob4Hire. (It is currently inefficient to pay out smaller amounts.) The majority of Mob4Hire-brokered test results are accepted without question. On rare occasions where the developer does not feel the work has been performed as outlined, they can contact Mob4Hire within the five day grace period. In those circumstances, Mob4Hire will mediate between the two parties.

  11. Can I bid more than once on a single project? No. However, if a developer is not satisfied with the bids they receive, they can re-post the project. At that time you would be welcome to submit another bid.

  12. Do I have to bid on a project if I am sent one? No. However, testers who bid and conduct tests make money and have the opportunity to increase their ratings; higher-rated testers can raise their bids accordingly.

  13. What should I do if I am having trouble completing my test? Each project has its own forum hosted on the Mob4Hire site where developers and testers can communicate. You’ll receive the link to the specific forum when you are accepted as the successful bidder.

  14. How do I get paid if there is no PayPal service in my country? On those rare exceptions, Mob4Hire and the developer will arrange alternative payment options.

  15. Are testers always rated on their performance? Yes. Mob4Hire requires all application developers to rate the tester on a scale of one to five once the project is completed. You also have the opportunity to rate the developer in terms of the clarity of the test plan and their response on the project forum.

  16. What if I am unhappy with a review that I received? If you think you’ve received an unfair review, contact Mob4Hire. Note however, that ratings are from one to five; the more tests you conduct, the less impact one bad review will make on your overall score.
